Time to Eat!

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Tracey Wilson One of the big questions and expenses you’ll deal with will be the food and drink decisions. You and the groom need to sit down from the beginning and decide if you’ll just be serving appetizers or full meals. Will the food be buffet style or a sit-down dinner? After you decide which way you’re going to go, make sure you start asking friends and family for referrals. Also be sure to ask your photographer, florist or videographer they may have a favorite they work with on a regular basis. After you accumulate quite a few names, make the phone calls to find out what they specialize in and their price range. Choose your favorite ones and set up an interview to ask questions. Make sure they provide a tasting session as well. There are several questions you need to ask. Print the questions up and take the list with you: What menu items do they suggest (it is only a suggestion) and what’s the cost per person? How many other weddings will they accept to handle that week/weekend? You don’t want them to be so slammed that they can’t give you the time or quality you deserve. How does the cost per person of a buffet versus that of a sit-down dinner compare?Does the cost per person just cover the food, or are charges such as staff, rentals, and linens included? Is there a set-up or clean-up fee?How much do they charge if the reception goes over the time limit?Do they provide everything, such as the linens, glasses, plates, silverware, tables, chairs, etc … What do they not include? Will they be the one handling the wedding? If not can you meet the person who will be?How much time is needed for set-up and clean-up?Do they charge for beverage service? Will they provide food for the other vendors? If so, is there an extra charge? What deposit do they require to hold the date and when will the rest of the money be due?Can you see pictures of previous events and speak to former clients for referrals? Once you choose the right caterer for you, ask them to draw up an outline of what you both discussed, including costs, menu possibilities and what the fee includes. The food type should be centered around the season, time of the wedding and perhaps a certain theme to match your wedding. Choose both stationary and passed hors d’ oeuvres, as well as both hot and cold ones. If you want to incorporate an old family recipe, make sure your caterer can do so. If it is a concern, be sure to ask what dietary options are available. Your caterer should be able to help you with your wine and champagne choices and help you figure out how much you will need for the amount of people attending. Women tend to lean toward white wines, while men usually like red wines. You’ll want champagne for toasting since this is the most expensive part of your wine budget use it only for toasting. You should plan about two glasses of champagne per person, unless your wedding will be very long or you know there will be many toasts. If your budget is tight, there is nothing wrong with having a cocktail reception or a dessert reception. Actually more and more people are opting for these type of receptions. Not only is it easier on the pocket, it is also less stressful and time consuming. Dating Tips: The First Impression Matters

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Rick Valens Ever had a love at first sight encounter? Totally captured by her beauty the first time you laid your eyes on her? Having sleepless nights thinking about her? That first impression she left with you was sure astonishing wasnt it? The first impression you give plays a very important part in the blooming of a love relationship. It determines the ever possibility of a development of the relationship. Would you fall in love with someone whom you dont have any good impression at all? The chances are, if you have a bad impression of someone, its very likely that the more you see him the more you will dislike him. Its very hard to change ones thinking once it is set in his mind. It will need a lot of time and regular communication between both to break down that wall. So even if you cant impress that special someone the very first time, make sure you will not displease him or her. You can still work on your chances at a later time. How can you impress someone? Well, you may be the kindest soul, so helpful; caring, fun loving and easy going whom all your friends enjoy your presence. But does that someone know? No, if there are no chances of both of you going out together, going out on a date, theres no way he or she will ever get to know you more. You have got to make that someone notice you, make your presence be known. You got to first impress him or her! Very naturally, humans tend to make judgment of another just by their very first acquaintance with the person. Decisions were made almost at that very moment of your job interview? Your physical appearance, the way you talk, all your little behaviors you show, will decide what kind of a person you are to them and this impression is going to be set in their mind unless some thing or someone changes it. So what can you do? What should you take note of? First of all, your appearance of course. Your physical appearance is the very the first thing that catches a persons eyes. Put on your very best look! But do however dress appropriately. If you are going for a ball, you will not go in your jeans and tee and if you are going for a barbeque, for heavens sake, please dont go in your tuxedo or suits. Other than your physical appearance, you have to also be careful with all your little actions, the way you speak, the way you eat, the way you look at others Look for chance to strike a conversation with that someone. If not a personal one, a little group conversation will be good. Try to participate in the conversation, getting his or her attention. Look into the eyes, drop him or her a nice warm smile. Let that someone know that his or her presence is felt, being felt by you. A smile with the right eye contact at the right timing can sometimes works wonder than to words. But please, keep the conversations entertaining. If you are bad with jokes, dont try it! Dont risk making yourself a clown. For guys, show your gentlemanliness, hold the door for her, offer seat to her; offer her a ride home But remember, be natural, take things slowly, dont overdo it and scare her off the very first time. For girls? Well, you always got a little more privilege. Just be sure not to make yourself look unfriendly, Smile Look him in the eyes and drop him a nice little sweet smile of yours. Do you know that your smile is enough to melt a mans heart? Well all these little things count, your little efforts will pay off Nonetheless, its always good to leave people with a good impression of yourself rather than a bad one, isnt it? 2005 http://www.loveletterbox.com Rick Valens Staff Writer http://www.loveletterbox.com Love Relationship Discussion Forum NOTE: You’re free to republish this article on your website, in your newsletter, in your e-book or in other publications provided that the article is reproduced in its entirety, including the author information and all live website link as above. What Is The Cost Of Consumers Time

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Christina Vlahova Let us stop for a second and talk about time - our own time as an investment. It is never enough and while new technology is making things faster instead of increasing - our available time is constantly decreasing. And this happens to our consumers as well - they face the same challenge. Their time is becoming a scarce resource, which they are becoming very careful where they are investing it in. And if you start looking at your time, at consumers time in terms of investment - the whole dialogue changes. Because then the old-time concept of “passing time” be it in front of a TV or anywhere else for that matter is gone. Time is too scarce to waist it. You have too little of it to afford to do that. And this is when we as consumers, all consumers become very careful how they “spend” it and on what. Because nowadays new technology offers us a choice - to sit in front of the TV zapping from channel to channel in search of what someone else have chosen to show us tonight or knowing what we are interested in up to the point where we know that the precious 1 hour of free time we have tonight we would like to invest in the fall - winter 2007-2008 fashion show of Dolce & Gabbana - because this is exactly what we would like to see. And it is becoming easier and easier to do that: be it on YouTube or Google Video the consumers choice becomes to either face the TV screen or the computer screen that simple. But then it is also a question between passively / reactively watching the programming choices of someone else or proactively knowing what we want and going for it. I assure you that more and more consumers are going to treasure their time and become very careful where they invest it in. Are you prepared to encounter them when they make that choice? The Second Half of My Life

Friday, August 24th, 2007

By Judy H. Wright Have you ever wondered where destiny would lead you? Have you ever pondered whether the road you are taking would lead to fulfillment and happiness? Unlike so many of my friends and family, I have always had the sure knowledge of what was expected of me. It was under a shade tree surrounded by my teddy bears and dolls that it came to me- I would have six children, write books that would help families, have the opportunity to speak and teach all over the world, and I would live to be 97 years old. That is pretty heavy stuff for a six year old. I shared this epiphany with my mother, and she never doubted the message. She continued to encourage and support me through every milestone until she died in my arms at age 93. Even while nurturing my family of six children and following my husband’s military career, I was gathering the skills to prepare me to “do my own thing.” When my children were grown and my parents were gone, I realized that the portion of my life devoted to care-giving and nurturing of my family was complete. I had 40 years of productive time left on this earth to accomplish all I had set forth to do. However, after carrying so much physical weight on my body for years, I was facing inevitable diabetes and arthritis. My future looked like pain, wheel chairs and doctor’s offices. Unless I took action, medical complications would curtail me from fulfilling my destiny. I approached this issue as I have the many books I have written. I investigated “one more diet” that I could live with for the rest of my life. I interviewed over 100 men and women across the country that had tried the same diets that didn’t work before finally finding a method that proved successful. My mind was made up. I chose gastric bypass surgery as a one-time solution. On July 30, 2002, I underwent a procedure called laparoscopic Roux-en-Y. This surgery creates a small stomach pouch which holds less than a cup of food. A section of the small intestine is attached to the pouch that absorbs less food than before. Most patients lose over half their excess weight in the first year and a half. Since my operation, I have lost 115 pounds. This is equivalent to the combined weight of my three granddaughters, Amanda, Lexi and Melissa! For the first time in years, I feel normal and in control when making food choices. Now I am able to enjoy life to the fullest and have the energy and stamina required helping other families raise their standard of living through my books and workshops. Finally, my spirit and body are in sync and I am ready to go forward. I am able to concentrate on my spirit’s promptings during yoga because I am no longer concerned with whether my body will be able to balance, bend or straighten up. For me, this option was a success. It gave me the ability to concentrate again on my writing, and to feel confident when I facilitate workshops or speak to groups. Yes, I have met my goal of being an international speaker and writer! To travel, teach, and fulfill my destiny I must be a woman of strength, and I must maintain that spirit and energy for the rest of my life. We each create our own reality by our thoughts, actions and belief systems. Hopefully that belief system will include guardian angels and a success team who will guide and assist us in our journey. I have an obligation to that little girl under the shade tree who understood her life’s purpose half a life time ago. The message that was shared with me and I now share with my children, my grandchildren, and the families that I work with is to listen carefully to the still small voice within that tells us we are important and have something of value to share with the world. The time to share your unique gift may not be now, but it will be someday and so always be in the process of becoming, learning and growing. Be open to possibilities that life and the angels have in store for you, and you will find the right road to fulfillment of your destiny. This article was written by Judy H. Affairs: Advice for the One Who Strayed

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By Jeff Herring To the spouse who had the affair, it’s time for what I call a multilevel apology. Anyone can say “I’m sorry,” and it’s important those words are spoken. Then follow up with an acknowledgment of the pain you caused and a commitment to never let it happen again. In order to rebuild trust, you must be willing to live under a microscope for an indeterminate time. It will stink and be very uncomfortable. But it’s a necessary part of rebuilding trust. One of the first rules of living under a microscope is to avoid doing anything that will increase the magnification. You must break all ties to the person with whom you had an affair. Sometimes this is easy, other times it is not. If you work in the same office or go to the same church, make sure you are NEVER alone together. If you find you’re tempted to continue the relationship, I have a three-word suggestion: Run like hell! I worked with a couple once where the man ended up alone in an office with the woman with whom he had had an affair. When it became crystal clear she was trying to pull him back in, he literally ran out of the room. He may have looked silly and even been embarrassed, but he saved both his integrity and his marriage. History Of Criminal Justice

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Marcus Peterson Justice while she winks at crimes, Stumbles on innocence sometimes?- Samuel Butler Crime and punishment have had a dangerous liaison with humanity throughout the history of civilization. People have always done and will continue to do things that are crimes in the eyes of society. They will kill, they will loot, they will rape, and they will plunder, and although the crimes are committed by humans themselves, they alone have the right and obligation to decide how these acts are punished. The only detail that makes a difference in the field of criminology is the perception of right and wrong. Many things that are considered okay on this side of the border become capital crimes on the other. Crimes come a dime a dozen and so do the ways criminal systems judge them. To decide whether an act is a crime or to justify it under moral auspices requires a close look at the phenomenon, making it essential to study all precedents available. Making the proper assessment of crime, the accountability of the perpetrator as well as the victim in order to mete out punishment that fits the crime depends up on a detailed study of the history of crime and punishment. The commonest form of punishment since ancient times has been exile. People were sent away from their native lands when they did something wrong with the belief that by sending them out of the kingdom, their crimes are no longer the kingdom’s responsibility. Then came the age of tributes: people who committed crimes were to pay suitable compensation to the victim’s family as well as to the state for wasting its time with crimes. Of course, this arrangement made no sense for the poor, who were then conveniently engaged as bonded labor. Throughout history, criminal justice has been responsible for committing the most heinous crimes. The ‘witches’ burnt at the stake, the peasants convicted of treason and the children buried alive are just some of the victims of skewed perceptions of crime and punishment. Most of the time, the poorer classes had to bear the brunt of criminal justice and were forced to endure public flogging, torture and amputations for crimes like staring at a parson or stealing bread. Anxiety Attacks, Real And Present Displays Of Fear

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

By M. Jedediah Anxiety attacks, also known as panic attacks, can strike at any time, usually with no warning. An attack can even come while you are sleeping, or seemingly completely at rest. One in 60 people with no other mental disorders will experience a panic attack each year in America. To fully describe a panic attack to someone who has never experienced one is as difficult as a sufferer simply deciding not to have any more. Once you have suffered through one however, you will never doubt their existence or seriousness again. Anxiety attacks are unexpected episodes of intense terror or fear. These attacks burst from within, unannounced and certainly unwelcome, and although the extreme level of fear is generally irrational, the perceived danger seems very real, and presents itself physically as though a tragedy of historical proportions were imminent. A person experiencing an anxiety attack will often feel as if they are about to pass out, or even that they are dying. Attempting to reason with someone who is in the midst of a panic attack will prove fruitless, and may even intensify the perception of dread, since now the sufferer will add you not believing them to their fears. If you or someone you love suffers from these sudden and intense anxiety attacks, you must prepare for the next one. Sadly, the overwhelming fear of the next attack can itself be the catapult towards one. Anxiety, when it is persistent, and the accompanying fears are all-consuming, is best dealt with by a mental health expert. Begin with your primary care physician, and be honest about the level of fear you are experiencing, the frequency of the attacks, and the impact the attacks are having on your daily life. You will then be referred to an expert well studied in your symptoms, and able to prescribe help, be it in medication form, talk therapy, or a combination of these and other methods of treating this very real disorder. It will prove invaluable to a sufferer of this debilitating disorder to keep a journal and especially to write in it as soon as possible after an attack, describing the thoughts, emotions and physical ailments associated with the gripping fear. This record will also be a very practical tool in your therapy and recovery, as you are able to look at the attacks you have come through and realize no harm came to you during them, other than what the attack itself caused. To witness a panic attack, without knowing what it is, can itself be a very unsettling experience. You may feel helpless, wanting to be of assistance, and having no idea how to proceed. The person may be hyper ventilating, complaining of not being able to breathe, or think they are having a heart attack, even complaining of chest pain. Many a trip to the emergency room with these symptoms has ended with the diagnoses of an anxiety attack. Some people who have experienced an attack in a certain place or during a certain activity may begin to associate the attacks with that situation and become irrational afraid of being in that place again. This then is an anxiety attack linked to a phobia. If this type of panic disorder is left untreated, it could quickly escalate to the degree where the sufferer is unable to even step out of their own front door to retrieve the newspaper or mail. Thankfully, much has been learned about these debilitating attacks in the past decade, and advances in treatment are ongoing. What Causes Weight Gain

Friday, August 17th, 2007

By Kat Lively You eat for energy. You expend energy through work, exercise, and daily chores, burning off the calories you took in as you ate. Sometimes, you don’t use enough energy to burn off all the food eaten in a day. What is left behind stays in the body, causing you to gain weight. Weight gain is as simple as that…or so we are led to believe. While overeating is a major contributor to one’s weight gain, other factors can play a role. With the many programs on the market for personalized weight loss, it is only a matter of determining which factors have led to your current size, and which products can help counteract the gain. Let’s take a look at other factors known to cause unhealthy weight gains. Hypothyroidism Hypothyroidism is defined by having an underactive thyroid. The thyroid is the gland located beneath the larynx (voice box) and secretes the hormones that regulate metabolism and growth. As an underactive thyroid produces less of this hormone as it would in a person with a normal thyroid, a person suffering hypothyroidism will also suffer from a low metabolism. This, in turn, may cause weight gain. Food Allergies Food allergies are defined as bodily reactions to the consumption of specific types of food. Symptoms may ranges from minor skin irritations to more serious medical emergencies. Oftentimes, a person with a specific food allergy may crave that particular food when they stop eating it, not unlike a drug addict experiences withdrawl pains when trying to come clean. Falling off the wagon, so to speak, may strengthen the desire to eat more, thus causing weight gain. Cushing’s Syndrome Cushing’s syndrome is a hormonal disorder defined by the body’s overproduction of the steroid cortisol. Cortisol regulates blood pressure, cardiovascular function, and the body’s usage of proteins, carbohydrates, and fat stores. When the body experiences a great amount of physical or emotional stress, cortisol production increases. If you have ever wondered why you turn to the refrigerator in times of personal anxiety, it is because of this steroid. A condition like Cushing’s Syndrome produces cortisol constantly, thereby increasing unecessary cravings and eventual weight gain. Blood Sugar Imbalance A diet consisting mainly of simple carbohydrates can lead to fluctuations in your body’s blood sugar levels. As you eat things like potatoes and starches, and sweets like chocolate and pastries, your blood sugar levels rises. Your body will secrete insulin to store the sugar and stabilize these levels, but an overabundance of insulin can cause cravings for these same foods. The more bad carbs you eat, the more insulin is produced, continuing this cycle. Hormonal and emotional imbalances in the body not only contribute to strong cravings for unhealthy foods, but may also factor into overall low metabolism. When energy is low, you are less likely to exercise and expend energy, causing a build-up of sugars and fats in your system. Once you are able to pinpoint the reason for weight gain, you are armed with the knowledge to prevent it in the future. Whether you choose exercise, diet supplements, or another form of weight loss, consult your doctor before beginning any strenuous program.
