How To Avoid Getting Traffic Tickets

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Matthew Weiss With politicians facing huge budget deficits, municipalities are writing more traffic tickets than ever. This article addresses various ways to minimize your chance of getting that ticket. Please note that most of these points are not legal in nature but rather more common sense. Drive in a pack. When driving on a highway, try and stay within a group of other cars. It is easy for a police officer to pick off that one jack rabbit who is riding ahead of the pack. In fact, if you are speeding along with another vehicle, it is advisable to change lanes and let that other vehicle lead the way. Chances are, if there is a police officer ahead, the lead vehicle will be pulled over, not you. Remain vigilant. Keep scanning the road ahead for areas where a police could hide. Also, do not forget to check your rear view mirror. Know the law. Keep a look out for traffic signs or markings which apply to you, and refresh yourself regarding the various rules of the law. The last thing you want to do it get a ticket because you erroneously thought some maneuver was legal. Keep your car in good condition. A vehicle with one working tail light, for example, is crying for police attention. Often such equipment tickets result in stops and more tickets once the police officers attention has been directed toward you. Spend the few dollars it will cost to repair such equipment problems and save a lot more later. Maintain a low profile. A red convertible or a car with neon lights is going to grab the attention of police officers. Try and tone it down so as to not stick out in the crowd. If you are stopped, always be polite to the police officer. Rudeness has bought many a motorist additional summonses. Also, do not volunteer too much information. The old adage anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law is a truism. Six Steps to Weight Loss Success

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By Stephanie Griffin Your best chance for losing weight and keeping it off is to use a personalized weight loss plan. Researchers have found that most people who lose weight and keep it off have followed their own combination of rules, rather than following one standard diet. The idea is to create a healthy lifestyle that you can maintain by forming better habits. The following six steps will provide a solid framework for your own weight loss plan. Read it over and insert the specifics that best fit YOU and your lifestyle. 1. You need to begin with motivation and commitment to change. Put aside the wanting and wishing to lose weight. Make the decision to lose the weight and create a healthy life. Commit to doing your best and focus on what you will gain by losing weight. 2. You need support in some form. Seek out your supporters, request their help and let them know specifically what they can do to assist you. You may find support from a family member, friend or co-worker, but there are other sources for support, too. Do not despair if someone in your life doesnt jump forward with support for you. Ask others to join you, find a weight loss buddy online, or begin posting to a weight loss message board. My personal favorite: hire a life coach and have support focused entirely on wonderful you! 3. Journaling (or blogging), taking notes, keeping a food diary, even designing charts, are all great opportunities to see progress, patterns, and confront issues head-on. Personally, I kept a blog as I lost weight. At first I kept it as a personal journal, but I eventually opened it up to the public. It helped to keep me inspired knowing that others were reading and looking to me for support. I encourage you to choose the method that fits you best and do it as frequently or infrequently as you desire. Allow it to change as your needs or abilities change. 4. Keep it healthy by making good food choices. Dont follow fad diets, starvation diets, or allow yourself to be pulled in by the promise of quick and easy weight loss by pills and such. Your healthy diet should include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, heart-healthy fats, lean meats (or soy), and at least eight glasses of water a day. 5. To lose weight you need to burn more calories than you take in. You do not have to jump into a big exercise program to do this. You can build extra movement into your daily routine. Take an extra trip up the stairs; park towards the back of the parking lot; walk around the mall before you actually begin shopping, get up and move during TV commercials When you are ready, you can begin more formal exercise. 6. Begin with baby steps and keep moving! Small steps allow you to move toward your goal in a steady manner. To get started, you may add one glass of water to your day, or exercise through one set of commercials. Dont worry if your steps seem very small. They can be guaranteed successes that encourage you to do more. Find steps that will move you forward and dont worry about making major changes at first. If you try to do too much, too soon, it can cause burn-out, overwhelment, despair, and cravings. Easy, no-fail steps add up quickly and before too long you could be ready for major leaps. Are you ready to create a healthy life? Take your first step today. Stephanie Griffin, inspirational life coach, has created the Enlightened Health workshops. Quality of Life

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Peter Jaystore A new hobby can improve your quality of life. Think of it. A hobby is a recreational or leisure activity outside of you career or work place. It is something YOU are interested in, some YOU want to pursue. Would it not improve your quality of life to do the things that you enjoy? You should not be selfish in pursuing what you want, what you want can actually benefit others around you as well. You can think of activities to which you can invite others to come along. You can find activities and hobbies that not only improve your own quality of life, but others as well. People need a purpose in life, a reason to do things. I am not saying that hobbies are the ultimate purpose for living, but I think that people should be happy and if they pursue hobbies that they enjoy, it can improve their lives and the lives of others. I think wholesome leisurely and recreational activities with family and friends are very important to having a good quality of life. It improves relationships, by providing good experiences together, it also just gives people the opportunity to get out and do something that they enjoy. It gives them the opportunity to feel like they have accomplished something and done something constructive. I heard once that happiness is the culmination of small successes. Is the quality of life not improved by small success, whether it be success in your career, success raising your family, success improving your life in some, or success in mastering some hobby or other interest that you have? A hobby or new interest can be something that you can quickly and easily master, or at least just enjoy learning to do it. It can give you a feeling of accomplishment, which will inspire and encourage you or others. One specific hobby that can increase your quality of life is music. Music is relaxing. Different music can stimulate different reactions of thought processes. They even have university undergraduate, masters, and doctorate degrees in music therapy. Learning to play a musical instrument or just listening and getting to know good music can be a way for you to improve your quality of life. It can be a hobby that is leisurely, relaxing, and can be a means for you or others to feel like they have accomplished something that makes a difference. If you can play a musical instrument, think of the good you can have in others lives. Musicians are often the life of the party. It seems everywhere I go, if someone can play the guitar, by the end of the night they will be entertaining everyone with their musical talent. The same goes for the piano or many other musical instruments. I myself played the trumpet for seven years, I also taught myself to play the guitar. I taught myself to play the piano a little bit, but I am not as good at it yet as I am at the guitar and the trumpet. Many hobbies can improve your physical health and stamina as well. Would it not be great to have a hobby, something you enjoy, that also keeps you physically fit? Many people play sports or participate in athletic events as hobbies to keep in shape. One of my favorites is to play tennis. I actually have never taken a class or learned to play tennis, I just taught myself and as I began playing I gradually got better. Now it is something I can do as leisure activity outside of work that will keep me in shape as well. Another hobby I just started is running. I ran the marathon over the weekend, I still cannot walk well, my feet and legs hurt, but I am sure I will get better. The pain will go away, but now I will be a marathoner forever. What Is A Tincture?

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Mary Welty Throughout the world people are turning to herbal remedies, but many are intimidated by the complex jargon that masks the simplicity of homemade herbal cures. Using herbs to ease common ailments has been around since the beginning of time and the only thing that prevents individuals from utilizing these common home remedies is the medical jargon that disguises simple preparations as something far too complex for the layman to tackle. Well, thats a lie. If our ancestors could mix up a tincture or infusion, so can you. So Ive decided to put together a series of articles on simple herbal preparations that anyone, yes anyone, can make. What is a Tincture? A tincture is a solution of herbs in alcohol. Apple cider vinegar may be used in some special preparations. The alcohol dissolves all of the chemical principals of the plant and acts as a preservative for future use. How is a tincture prepared? Tinctures in alcohol are made by steeping herbs in rectified spirits or alcohol, by heating herbs and alcohol at various temperatures, or by filtering alcohol through herbs, (similar to the way you brew a pot of coffee, by suspending the herbs in a filter, and the alcohol drips down through the soluble plant material and the herb-saturated alcohol is then used.) The alcohol used to make a tincture is not rubbing alcohol but a 90 proof spirit, such as vodka, gin or brandy. Basic Tincture Technique The easiest way to make a tincture is to steep herbs in vodka, gin, whiskey, or brandy. This way your herbs can be taken internally. Use (1) pint of ninety proof alcohol (as suggested above) with 4 ounces of cut herbs. Allow the herbs and alcohol to steep for 2 weeks. Strain out the herbs, then bottle and label your tincture. How to use your tinctureDrops of tincture may be added to hot or cold herbal teas for drinking, or may be added to water for external use on compresses. Tinctures can also be added to oils or fats for an instant healing ointment. Sample Tincture Comfrey is wonderful example of a healing tincture well worth keeping on hand. For a full list of this herbs properties, please see my article on Comfrey. Tincture of Comfrey can be added to any compress to treat injuries such as cuts and bruising. It will help to alleviate the pain and promote healing; in fact, its healing ability is nothing short of miraculous. Shrub Roses and Climbing Roses

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Briscoe White Here are a few shrub roses and climbing roses that we have focused on this spring. Austrian Copper is a rose that has been grown since the 1500s. The flowers are single with petals that are orange-scarlet on top and yellow underneath. The vivid blooms come in early summer on bushes that grow 4 to 6 feet high. F. J. Grootendorst has double red flowers that bloom in midseason. The flowers that bloom may grow 8 feet tall but can be pruned to any desired height. This variety grows well in a pot and tolerates more shade than most roses. Sir Thomas Lipton White double flowers come early in the season and are very fragrant. Bushes with deep green, leathery foliage may stand 6 feet tall or more. Therese Bugnet blooms in spring or early summer, has red buds that open to become fragrant, double pink flowers. The foliage is blue green on bushes 4 to 6 feet tall. Viking Queen is a climber that can be grown on a small trellis or a wall. It will grow 12 to 15 feet. The flowers are pink, 3 to 4 inches across and grow in clusters. The foliage is dark green and glossy. Gold Rush is a strong climber that grows 7 to 10 feet. The yellow flowers are large and fragrant. In 1985, Briscoe White opened The Growers Exchange in an abandoned Texaco station on a busy urban street corner in Richmond, Virginia. The facility has grown over the years, and is now 5 distinct growing environments with 5 acres under cover. Briscoe has over 25 years of gardening experience. Dating Profile Photo Tips: How A Good Picture Can Improve Your Profile!

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Dave Thomas You’re ready to try online dating. You’ve polished your profile, and your best friend has concluded that you are so attractive that even they would like to date you. It’s come to that time! Somebody online wants to see what you look like. What picture of yourself will you paint when you display one along with your profile? There are a few guidelines that apply to online dating pictures that you should observe which will improve your profile. These are as follows: 1. Do add at least one picture of yourself to your profile! If you don’t, you’re seriously putting yourself at a disadvantage. Many people search only for people who have uploaded pictures. Still others don’t like the idea of a “blind date,” and won’t go through with a meeting if they haven’t seen what you look like. 2. Remember that you are trying to be a salesperson here; you’re trying to sell yourself. Look at the photographs of other people on the online dating site. Is yours similar? If so, you will not stand out from the crowd! The picture you post should be good quality. Do yourself a favour and forget the shot that someone took of you when you were at a nightclub last month, cut off just to one side where your ex was still in the picture. There are tons of pictures like this, and they don’t make people want to find out more! Your profile will be more attractive than if you hadn’t posted a picture, probably, but you’re still not going to stand out from the crowd and do yourself justice. Ask yourself what you would want to see if you were a member of the target audience (usually the opposite sex), looking at your profile for the first time, and be critical. At the very least, have a picture taken of yourself for the express purpose of using with your dating profile. You don’t need to have had it done professionally, although it certainly wouldn’t hurt! I suggest you find yourself someone who has a digital camera (or have them borrow yours) and can take pictures well, and offer them a pint or three to take several pictures of you. Get them to take a fair number of pictures (20 or so), perhaps on different settings, because not all of them may work well, and because you then have a good selection to choose from. Choose your backdrop carefully! A nice simple approach is to go to a field or a beach when it’s near sunset, and have pictures taken of yourself against this background. The background you choose should show yourself in a romantic or fun setting, and your clothes should be appropriate to that setting. How about an interesting alternative? If you know somebody who is good with art packages such as Paint Shop Pro, have them paint out the background, and change the picture so that it looks like a spotlight is shining on you! 3. It may be a good idea to try and improve the picture, as is often done of pictures of models in advertising. If you have any obvious, but small, disfigurements, these could be airbrushed out with a painting package. If you can’t do it yourself, you probably know someone who can do it for you. Don’t go overboard with this; make sure the picture still looks like you! 4. Don’t be tempted to lie by posting a picture of George Clooney or Catherine Zeta Jones, unless of course you really are one of those people! The picture must be one of yourself, otherwise when it comes to a face-to-face meeting, the occasion is likely to end before it begins! 5. This tip is not well-known. Add a border to your picture, coloured the same as the hyperlinks on the target site. The reason for this is partly to make your picture stand out, but also because most pictures shown on online dating agency sites are also links to your profile. Your picture will then look like a link, and it increases the chance of it being clicked on. If there is any “outside” to your picture, this should then have the exact same colour as the background of the site. This can be found by using Alt-Print Screen to grab an image of your web browser when on the dating site, then pasting it into an art package, and identifying the colour from there. (Note that some online dating agency sites already supply borders around images; the trick will not work on these.) 6. If you have several pictures of you doing interesting activities and the site permits it, post one picture of you doing each activity in addition to your head-and-shoulders shot. For example, pictures of you skiing while on holiday; pictures showing you braving the rapids in white-water rafting; pictures of you doing your favourite sport. They help to prove that you do the things you say you do in your profile, and they make your profile more interesting! David Thomas is a web publisher with a wide range of interests, including psychology and dating. He runs a web site that gives free flirting tips, and you can even add your own comments to the articles. It’s a great place to learn! 5 Magical Steps to Blue Moon Marketing

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By Jan Verhoeff Every once in a while an idea comes along that just sweeps you off your feet, down the aisle, and next thing you know youre married to a new concept. Beyond the random jilted at the altar feeling of abandonment when it doesnt work, the vision is wonderful, presenting an ongoing opportunity to just experience success. Blue moon marketing offers a kaleidoscope of opportunities to Brand Your Market and get known in the big bad world of marketing for a specific event or accomplishment. 1. Create an event. Valentines Day evokes thoughts of flower shops, roses, chocolate, and cards ripe with emotion. Cupid must have been a master of marketing to become so well known. The stakes are high, if you dont receive flowers, chocolates, and a card on that day of Love, you must not be loved How sad! If you dont give flowers, chocolates, and a card on that day, you wont be loved for long. Work on emotional appeal. If you can FEEL it, it must be worth your efforts. 2. Give it explosive power. The Forth of July could possibly say Independence without fireworks, but would it have the marketing impact? By trumping your Marketing Event with enthusiasm, you multiply the results with explosive power. Picnics, fishing, sightseeing, and fireworks displays on the Forth of July are all about the enthusiasm and excitement we feel when we celebrate our Independence. If it doesnt excite you, it probably wont benefit your business much. 3. Be generous. That big fat guy in the red suit isnt the only one who gives it all away on Christmas. God sent His Son to start the event off with a Star in the East. Bright lights welcome visitors to the best Grand Openings, and Christmas was no different. God knew He had to announce the arrival of His gift to the World, and He did so with a Star. Give valuable merchandise, information, or products away and get their attention wit bright lights. 4. Announce your Celebration. When you start off a business, or a marriage, you should send announcements. Alert the press, bring in the media, and kick it off with lights and activities. Any time you open a new business, or bring out a new product, create a press release and tell the world about it. Celebrate your accomplishments, and get known instantly for your achievements. 5. Experience the magic. Pat yourself on the back and enjoy the rush of adrenalin that comes from accomplishment. Youve worked hard, youve earned the right to experience the joy and celebrate the magic, so take a moment and bask in the warmth of your accomplishments. Everyone deserves a day off after a great accomplishment. Take a moment and revel in the success of your Blue Moon Marketing Experience. Just dont get stuck there. Metaphysical Marketing

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By Marilyn Jenett The foundation of success is in your mind. You do not need to struggle, seek and strive to build your business. You can use mental and spiritual laws to create and attract all the elements that insure success. Wouldn’t you love to set your business on “automatic pilot” and enjoy the ride? The Law of Reversed Effort The application of prosperity principles in business allows us to become aligned with these spiritual laws to learn how to “receive” success instead of “trying” to make it happen. Did you know there is a law called the Law of Reversed Effort? It states that the harder you “try” to do something, the less chance you have of achieving it. Trying implies a negative, it suggests to the mind that you may not accomplish. Even Yoda in Star Wars recognized this truth when he wisely said, “We do. There is no try.” Practical Metaphysics My teachings are based on what I call “practical metaphysics”. First, what do we mean by “metaphysical”? Well, “meta” as used as a prefix in metaphysical, means “comprehensive” or “transcending.” Metaphysical is relating to the transcendent or to a reality beyond what is perceptible to the senses. In other words, a study of what is outside objective experience. This includes aspects of the mind and spirit. My definition of practical metaphysics is the study and application of these transcendent principles from methods that appeal to our “real world” senses, techniques that we can understand and utilize with ease - in other words, a simple approach that assures our practical application of these profound laws. We take the mystery and speculation out of these principles and instead concentrate on putting them to use - a nuts and bolts approach. I believe that there are a great number of people who have read and studied and are well informed about spiritual matters and metaphysical laws but who have not been able to take these ideas from their intellect and incorporate them mental and emotionally to put them into practice. The Universe Is My Marketing Department Now, this study in no way discounts the marketing techniques and tools taught by the visible world’s marketing experts. What I am doing here is helping you lay the foundation for a mindset that will allow you to use those tools if you so choose, and succeed with them. The fact is that all of the marketing and business know-how in the world will not result in your success unless you first have the mindset to succeed. A house cannot stand without a proper foundation. And once you create that foundation, you will automatically be guided to the appropriate methods and means that will result in your success. You will find as I did that the Universe is truly the greatest marketing department you could ever hope for, and the possibilities are unlimited. You can experience the guidance of an unseen hand, know what it feels like to live a charmed life, and realize that you have an invisible means of support. How do I know so much about succeeding through a metaphysical approach? On the Feel Free to Prosper website in the section entitled Your Mentor you will see in full color many of my accomplishments using these laws - fruits of my metaphysical labors - and in the section Amazing you can review the stories of how I created some amazing successes using these principles in my business in over a 20-year span that includes the present. My business clients are the world’s largest corporations. Here is a secret that you may find hard to believe: I have never looked for a client. They have always found me. Nothing Impersonal It doesn’t matter if you are a company owner, business executive, entrepreneur, creative talent, network marketer, home based business, investor, employee, or in transition looking for your true place in life. The laws are impersonal and will work for everyone. Here is why you should learn and apply prosperity principles: (1) To uplift and raise your awareness to a level of consciousness that empowers and connects you to the Universal source from which ALL good flows. (2) To apply this awareness specifically to the marketing and success of your business, skills and talents. (3) To come to the absolute realization that you are not alone and that you have all the creative power of the Universe ready to inspire you and guide you to success if you will only recognize and acknowledge it. (4) By becoming a part of the prosperity vibration, you will know exactly what to do. Your Universal marketing department will inspire you to do exactly what you need to do. Okay, Let’s Have Some Nuts and Bolts (1) Watch Your Speech. The above can be accomplished only through the use of positive and life-affirming language. Do not doubt it for a minute. The words you think, speak (and hear) are recorded in your subconscious mind and will produce circumstances that correspond to your thoughts and speech. If you want a successful business or career, you MUST resist the habit and temptation of speaking about the lack of business or clients or jobs. I tell my students, “If you don’t want it, don’t say it.” Even if you feel like you are lying to yourself (or others), continue to speak in positive terms about your business and affairs. As you persist in speaking successful words, your subconscious will accept the new ideas and you will discover that the “lies” are becoming a new and very tangible reality. But it always first begins in mind. Never forget this. (2) Start Listening. As you develop positive thought and speech patterns, you will begin to clear the debris and static in your subconscious that has prevented you from tuning in and listening to your intuitive promptings. Practice paying attention now to those promptings, the hunches, the feelings, the “still small voice” that subtly urges you to do something. As you practice listening and following through on these hunches and the more you discover that they lead to successful results, the more consistent and the stronger they will become. You will have truly discovered your “invisible means of support.” On my website, there are specific examples of how listening to my inner guidance brought successful results to my business. Again, in the section entitled Amazing, review “The Universe - My Marketing Department” and “The Universe - My Talent Agency”. (3) Attitude of Gratitude. You have heard that over and over again, haven’t you? But do you live it? Well, start now. The “attitude of gratitude” is one of the greatest - perhaps THE greatest - spiritual principle that can be applied to attain happiness, inner peace, health and financial prosperity. But there is an aspect of gratitude that most people do not know about. It is easy to be grateful for what you already have. But can you be grateful for what you don’t yet see? Prior to Thanksgiving, I held a Holiday conference call on “Gratitude” in which I discussed how gratitude is the precursor to successful results and how you can acquire gratitude when there are appearances to the contrary. You may listen to this call free on the Feel Free to Prosper Network. Start giving thanks NOW for your new clients, your increased business and income, your new job, and inspired new ideas. I promise if you will maintain your state of gratitude, they will come, and often at a speed that will astound you. Give thanks now for the Universal guidance that led you this article that contains truly life-changing elements. (4) Your Business or Job Is NOT Your Source of Income. I’ll bet you read that again. But that’s right. Your business is not your source of income. Your clients are not your source of income. Your job is not your source of income. Even your savings or investments are not your source of income. There is only one source of income. That source is The Source - that Universal intelligence that you may refer to as Universe, God, Infinite Intelligence, Divine Mind, All That Is, The Field of All Possibilities. All of those other avenues are “channels” of income, but they are not the source. Think of it this way. If your kitchen faucet was broken and prevented you from getting water, would that mean there was no more water? Of course not. You could find water at in your bathroom or from any number of other faucets. So you see, the kitchen faucet is not the source of water; it is only one of innumerable channels. As soon as you learn to align yourself with, rely on and trust The Source for your income (and clients and jobs and every other good thing you could possibly desire), then all of the channels will be opened for you to receive your good. How many channels? Limitless channels. There are thousands and thousands of channels through which your good can come to you. It is not your job to know them. It is your job to trust your Source and as you do, both expected and unexpected channels will open and clients and jobs and ideas will come to you “out of the blue”. So release all ideas that your income and business must be derived from only one particular channel. Essense of Infidelity

Friday, November 16th, 2007

By Susan Sheppard On one very popular web site there were 260 posts from both sexes commenting about forgiving and forgetting infidelities. I read every one of them. With one exception, the perception conveyed was that one party was an innocent victim of the others philandering. It seemed to me that everyone was looking at adultery as a cause of marital discord. From my perspective, there are only rare exceptions to the fact that adultery, cheating, or affairs are SYMPTOMS of long standing marital problems. The cause occurred possibly even before the marriage vows were uttered. Lets go back to the beginning of a relationship. What really happens before two people decide to get married? They have been dating and checking each other out. You all know that women do the choosing. Men respond to a womans signals and a relationship moves forward at a pace governed by the womans appetite. So how does a couple who is totally in love and committed to each other end up in the predicament dictated by an affair? I think the predicament results from the general consensus of opinions and expectations generated by a marriage. In all of the posts that I read it seemed that “being married” automatically presupposed that fidelity is the most precious aspect of the marriage. It appears that everything that could go wrong would be tolerated, everything except infidelity. I do not support tolerating infidelity. What Im wondering is what are the reasons that people actually get married? Do they get married because they are in love? Want to have sex? Want exclusivity? Want emotional, financial, sexual security? Want to have children? It seems like the thing to do? Or do they get married because they have found someone with whom they are career compatible, financially balanced, sexually attracted, intellectually well-matched, culturally congenial, religiously aligned, madly in love, with whom they want to procreate and raise children according to mutually agreeable standards? Do all people get married for the same reasons? I dont think so. I believe that some people get married for love, some for lust, some for status, some for money, some for security, some for convenience, some to have children, some looking for parental guidance, some for business reasons etc. etc. And if that is true, why is it that everyone who gets married expects adherence to the same standards as far as fidelity is concerned? The expectation seems to be that everyone gets married for passionate, romantic love and fidelity is the highest value of marriage. I dont presume to have all the answers, but possibly some suggestions as to the seeds of infidelity. Lets start with a couple who declare that they are in love and want to commit to each other. They are starry eyed and the state of “in love” creates a certain blindness and denial especially when this person seems to be almost perfectly aligned with the important values you have designated to be essential in the person you are going to marry. So this person lies to you about something or breaks a promise to you, or does something that totally violates your ethics, but you love him/her and he/she is so perfect otherwise. Its just a small thing and you can certainly tolerate a little thing like that. After all, you are getting married and that means you can work it out. Love conquers all. Here is the problem. Love doesnt solve anything. People come to agreement or negotiate boundaries and decide to be together because they want to be together. They choose marriage. I think the rules of marriage and the boundaries that each couple wants to live by must be negotiated. Obviously each and every scenario cannot be discussed ahead of time, but the individual standards of each partner in each marriage must be decided prior to the vows. When a woman/man settles (that includes compromises, tolerates, sells out) on a value that is significant to her/him, the bond is compromised. It makes it okay to do it again, whatever “it” is. According to the Man/Woman Strategy that I subscribe to, women have the power in relationship and their job is to provide appetite, which challenges the man who loves her to produce results. The man who wants to please his woman will produce those results as long as she believes in him and respects him as the producer. The other component in this neat little package is the sex. Men will do anything for sex. Women love sex as much as men do; its just not socially acceptable for them to say so. Men get their pleasure from a womans pleasure and “most women lie to men about their satisfaction” which leads to the giant gap in the presumption that marriage presumes passionate, romantic love and fidelity are the highest values. Women on the whole are not able to maintain the level of energy and self esteem necessary to always validate for a man what sexually satisfies her. Thus the communication regarding sex gets distorted. Men, unless someone instructs them, can not be expected to know what areas of a womans body are responsive to erotic touch. Its different for every woman (man too). So heres what happens. Women get pregnant. Pregnancy creates enormous changes in a womans body and physiology, which at times do not make sex appealing. Women become mothers. Parenting, especially mothering is a 24-hour job, which includes massive sleep deprivation, and instincts, which consume even the most, prepared. Generally, both men and women have jobs, which consume time and energy. Women also feel responsible for the upkeep of the home. Not that men do not, but somehow for a woman five million years of homemaking has become instinctual. So what does this entire story mean? It means life gets in the way of relationship and unless some time and energy is devoted to the relationship as an entity, that state of “in love” that everyone marries into will disintegrate. There are exceptions, but generally speaking most people do not intend to cheat on their spouse after the wedding nor do they intentionally pursue an affair. So here is how an affair begins. One or the other partner is not getting his/her needs met for whatever reasons. That person encounters someone at work, or at a party, or in the neighborhood, who notices him/her and sees something that attracts. There is nothing like a flirtation to restore a sense of self-esteem. Initially, the married person resists but enjoys the attention. That person then goes home to his/her spouse and hints that he/she needs more attention. The spouse at home who assumes that because they are married, everything is great and there is always time for taking care of the spouse later, ignores the hint That, my friends, is the beginning of the affair. When one partner seeks emotional or physical or intellectual support from someone of the opposite sex outside of the marriage, the seeds have been sown. The marriage is taken for granted. The almighty wedding ring is supposed to be able to bind people to their vows automatically. This is the false presumption that leads us to the incorrigible statistic that 80% of marriages are affected by infidelity. Marriage doesnt work by itself. It takes two people who pay attention to each others needs. It takes two people who believe in each other and validate each other. It takes two people who want to love each other and who continually approve of each other which allows the vulnerability necessary to be honest about their personal needs. What should be done about reversing this destructive trend? Marriage encounters? Premarital counseling? Relationship coaching? Pre-marital coaching would be best. Determine if the person you are marrying meets your standards and that you are not just settling because he/she is almost what you want and you might not find anyone better. Second best would be to stop an affair before it happens. This could be accomplished by paying attention to your relationship and not taking anything for granted. Decreasing the number of affairs would probably make a difference in the divorce rate. Preventative would seem to be preferable, but some people need to get hit by a board before they wake up and realize they are in jeopardy. Ideas are welcome. Student Loan Debt Consolidation

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

By Simon Rand As with most debt, people are looking to simplify, simplify, simplify. This typically means combining debt to one low-interest payment. The answer for most college and postgraduate students is a student loan debt consolidation. The whole enterprise of student loan debt consolidation is wide and varied. A great many lending institutions, both private and federal, are out there waiting to lend a hand and a great deal of money. When considering student loan debt consolidation, it would be wise to take it step by step. A very simple and useful first step would be in the direction of your college advisors or financial aid administrators office. You can begin the process by first finding out if student loan debt consolidation is in your best interest, and if so, where and how to start. Qualifications for student loan debt consolidation must be the first consideration. There are some basic guidelines to follow: 1. Students NOT enrolled more than half-time, or students out of school for 3-6 months. 2. Students in grace period (up to 6 months after leaving school), or with existing loans in deferment or default status. 3. Students with no previous consolidation loans. Of course, there are exceptions and instances where these general qualifications for student loan debt consolidation will not apply, especially in the case of some postgraduate programs. When applying for a consolidation loan, another basic consideration is to weigh the differences between federal (a.k.a. direct) consolidation loans as opposed to private consolidation loans. These two types of student loan debt consolidation programs differ mainly in terms of interest rates and credit ratings. Federal student loan debt consolidation requires that the applicant have at least one Direct or Federal loan outstanding, such as a Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL). Currently, the interest rate on federal loans is based on the average of the loans being consolidated. Once the interest rate is calculated it is fixed for the life of the loan. Private student loan debt consolidation interest rates can range from the current prime lending rate to whatever the loan institution sees fit, based on credit rating. Those who apply for this kind of loan must have a good credit rating or provide a cosigner with one. Student loan debt consolidation will take a degree (forgive the pun) of due diligence and patience to complete. But in some cases it may decrease your student loan payments up to half and simplify your life by even more. The length of consolidation loans can span from 10-25 years, with extended plans available from 15-30 years. On the bright side, the interest paid on most student loans and/or student loan debt consolidation is tax deductible. In the “big picture” of life an education is a priceless commodity. Knowledge is power and with that power great things can be accomplished. Simon is the pen name for a professional writer on many topics.
